The town is seeking applicants to be Germantown’s representative on the Columbia County Environmental Management Council (EMC). The EMC’s purpose is to advise local, state and, when applicable, the federal government, on environmental matters. The membership consists of representatives from the County’s eighteen towns and the City of Hudson who are appointed to two years terms by the County Board of Supervisors. Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the 1st floor meeting room at the 401 State Street County Office Building in Hudson, NY and are open to the public. See the county website for additional information https://sites.google.com/a/columbiacountyny.com/columbia-county-environmental-management-council/The EMC has worked on issues in areas such as energy production/transmission, hazardous and municipal solid waste, Hudson River and coastal zone issues, water quality and quantity, air quality, plant and animal habitats, septic systems and water wells, recycling, and industrial project reviews. A Natural Resources Inventory for the county was just completed under the auspices of the EMC. The EMC is currently discussing legislation regarding limiting polystyrene products, the county’s approach to industrial hazards, and responses to the ash dumping proposal for the Town of Catskill. Members may choose to work on subcommittees formed from time to time for specific issues. Members are active on issues in their own towns and bring that knowledge and experience to the EMC. Germantown is very fortunate to have many selfless, dedicated citizens. We rely on volunteers to help our government on a variety of committees and boards. From time to time there is an opening on a committee or board. Most committees are formed for a limited time, while others, including boards, are permanent. If you are interested in volunteering for an opening on a committee or board, please contact us via the link following the description.

From time to time we need to make ourselves available for our neighbors by opening a Town building for safety and convenience. Typically, this will occur when there is a power outage that is expected to last a long time, especially during the winter. If you would like to volunteer, please contact
