Annual Community Events
Town-Wide Yard Sale
In mid-May each year, the town of Germantown holds a town-wide yard sale. For a small fee, participants can get their name and location on a map that is made available to all shoppers.
Memorial Day Parade
Each Memorial Day the Town of Germantown hosts a parade down Main Street to Palatine Park to honor the men and women who have served and are serving our country. The Germantown Central School marching band participates as do youth sports teams, Boy and Girl Scouts, many local civic organizations and businesses, Town officials, and the fire and police departments — plus spectators enjoy horse drawn wagons and equestrians. A picnic for families and participants follows at Palatine Park.
Old Fashioned 4th of July
Hosted by the Germantown Parks and Recreation committee, this is a very popular family fun celebration at Palatine Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. and fireworks above the lake take place around 9:30 p.m. Live music, vendors and food add to the festive atmosphere. Visit the event’s website for details: http://germantownfourthofjuly.weebly.com/
Hudson Valley Apple Festival
The Hudson Valley Apple Festival is held annually on the first weekend of autumn in Germantown, NY and the proceeds from the event make it possible for the Germantown Lions Club to provide support for local charities, as well as assist those in the community with hearing and vision needs. Enjoy children’s activities, family hayrides, fireworks, live music, an apple crate derby & much more! A full schedule of events is posted on the event’s dedicated website: http://www.hudsonvalleyapplefestival.com.
Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Stroll
In early December, everyone is invited to usher in the holiday season with the lighting of the Town Christmas tree. Kids are invited to visit with Santa after his arrival by wagon. Festivities continue at the Palatine Park Kellner Building with live music, crafts and more family fun. Be sure to check the Germantown Parks and Recreation Facebook page for details in late November.
